C-minus song??? No no no! Solid B at least. John Lennon even grudgingly said so for christsakes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coming_Up_%28song%29). And the live version is nowhere near as quirky and cool.

Though, granted, my love for McCartney II knows little bounds.

One thing is clear though… my collection is sadly short on Sparks. To be rectified ASAP.

Paul McCartney - “Coming Up” [1980]

Substrata:

Like many of 1980’s 13-year-olds, my first exposure to Ron Mael was in the video for McCartney II’s “Coming Up”.

Even though said exposure was actually just Macca playing Ron Mael. Still. Pretty great Ron Mael impression.

Very fun, avant garde video of a C-minus song. Live version’s better, but not a lot.

Still. Yeah. You gotta love Sparks.

Addendum 2009-11-04 07:27:50 -0800: Psych. Video’s unembeddable. Because why would you want a costly, difficult, and technologically ground-breaking promotional video to be used to promote something? Think, consumers. Put yourself in their shoes. Exactly. Lizards and mammals.
